At the end of the 19th century, it was dangerous for women to be fascinated with stolbism

At the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries it was a shameful thing for women to get involved in stolbism (stolbism is a process of climbing in the rocks such as Stolby.) ! The first stolbists were regularly insulted in the streets, sometimes it came to fights. And all because the urban inhabitants could not come to terms with the fact that the ladies were sent to conquer the rocks in the same clothes as men, that is, in trousers.

So, in 1910, the photographer Roganov decided to capture the beautiful conquerors of rocks in their original costumes (wide bloomers, galoshes and a waist belts up to 10 meters long) against the backdrop of the amazing scenery of the Stolby. On this occasion, a grand scandal erupted in Krasnoyarsk - the public considered such photographs of schoolgirls from good families indecent. But this did not make the brave Siberian women quit their favorite business. Perhaps they were inspired by the feat of the first female climber Alexandra Kachalova, who, in 1894, wrapped in trivial bast shoes, managed to climb the Elephant Rock ... We are forever proud of our brave countrymen!
