The traces of Sihirtia on Taimyr

The traces of the legendary people of Sihirtia are found. On the Taimyr Peninsula. In Makarov Bay.

Sihirtia – in the Nenets legends these are people with fair eyes and hair who live in the hills (in the ground), breed the “ground deer” (mammoths), ride dogs, go fishing, do smithcraft and go out to the surface only at night.  They are strong shamans, have supernatural power, sometimes make related with the local nations. The doors of the Sihirtia's lodgings are marked with a “horn” (mammoth tusk). This is the only settlement of ancient people, known on Taimyr, which is not related to the wild reindeer hunting.

So, in the Arctic, on the bank of the Kara Sea, in 2020 the Krasnoyarsk archaeologists found a  framed and dug out construction and a lot of working tools, including those made of mammoth tusk, which are dating to the 14th century. Besides that, in the Bay of Makarov there is an ancient sanctuary, where on the sheer cliff paws and heads of bears, deer, birds’wings were sacrificed. According to the words of the director of Krasnoyarsk geo archeology Danil Lysenko, the inhabitants of this settlement  hunted polar bears, ringed seals and  bearded seals (mammals of the seal family).

The same findings were made in 1960-s on Yamal. The ancient settlement Bukhta, dated 13th century, was found there. It became well-known as “the town of Sihirtia”.
