Monument to I.S. Yarygin
Ivan Sergeyevich Yarygin is a true legend of sports: during his career he became a two-time Olympic champion in freestyle wrestling, a seven-time winner of the USSR championships, a three-time gold winner and a two-time silver champion of the European championships, as well as the 1973 world champion.
A 4-meter-tall bronze statue of Ivan Yarygin, an honorary citizen of Krasnoyarsk, is mounted on a granite pedestal in front of the entrance to the city sports center of the same name. The monument was made in St. Petersburg according to the project of the sculptor Vladimir Usov.
Repsentatives of the Moscow government, the governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Alexander Lebed, the chairman of the Russian Olympic Committee Leonid Tyagachev, as well as the widow and brother of the Olympic champion, attended the opening ceremony of the monument in the spring of 2002.
