The excursion route around the Shushenskiy Bor national park for 2 days

The south of the Krasnoyarsk region cherishes its guests with rich diversity of flora and fauna as well as great exhibitions devoted to the nature’s beauties.  Here, in the territory of the national park Shushenskiy Bor everyone can find wide steppes and taiga, glacier lakes of the ridge Borus, and walk in Lenin’s places. Yes-yes, this the place where a bit over a century ago Vladimir Lenin used to walk during his almost three years exile in Shushenskoye. And in the Sayano-Shushenskiy reserve, among arduous mountains and narrow river valleys there is a chance to walk along the same paths as the Red Book animals walk, for example, manul cats, forest reindeer and even snow leopards, or you can find them in the special interactive locations! Travelling in these reserved places will please you in any season, since there is always something to look at and to do. We will tell about possible variants of rest a bit more in the text below :)

Day 1

► For the beginning we suggest you going to an exciting expedition “Following the snow leopard” by the united directorate of the Sayano-Shunskiy reserve and the Sushenskiy Bor national park. In the labyrinths of “rocks and caves” everyone can get acquainted with such a mysterious animal as snow leopard, learn about his habits, habitat and many others. Such an adventure will be interesting either to children, or to adults.

► After visiting the nature’s pearls of these places go to study our history! In Perovo cluster of the Shushenskiy Bor national park you can take the pedestrian route to the peasants’ bushcraft shelter and lake Perovo. On the way you will be told about the exile of Vladimir Lenin to Shushenskoye and one of his favourite places for rest, hunting and fishing during the Siberian exile – lake Perovo.

”…I started to describe the charm of Shush. I even projected how we would go to Lake Perovo and would fish and grill crucian carps there” –Nadezhda Konstantinovna Krupskaya mentioned these places in the letter to Maria Il’yinichna Ul’yanova.

By the way, the district of Perovo is considered to be the oldest remained territory of the national park. And not far from the lake you can drop in a typical peasants’ SHALASH of the 19th century, where Vladimir Lenin liked to have a rest after his walks.

► After the excursions you can have a walk to Peschanaya Gorka – the highest sand dune of the national park. From the 45-meters top you can see the Yenisey, joining the pine wood, and Koibalskaya steppe. 30-40 years ago in this place there was no flora at all because of the fire happened on the cusp of the 19th and 20th centuries, which killed all the plants and naked the sand. Recovering Shushenskiy Bor, people enforced the slopes, having planted silver willow here, which is an absolutely low maintenance plant, that is why now you can see small pines and thick grass stand on the mountain face.

Some when, this venue was especially equipped for observation of the territory during the fire danger period, and the access to it was available only the repsentatives of the forest protection service. But smart tourists used to make a manhole in the metal net and climbed the high stand, so it was decided to make this place available and open for travelers.

The route will be about 6 km. Use the Krasnoyarsk hiking map for orientation.

► Having admired the views, go to the three-hundred-meters waterfall Katyushka, which cascades down from the peak of Koshurnikov. It is especially beautiful here in spring and in the beginning of summer during high water period, and in winter you can take great photos near the frozen waterfall. Juniper, cowberries, bilberries, ashberries and cedar grow around this place. So you can organize a competition on the plants identifying with your companions.

To get here, you need to go back to the junction from the Observing high stand. Orienteering to the marked route on the map, go ahead along the path to Borus, and then turn left on the marked part of the way.
