Railway bridge in Krasnoyarsk

The railway bridge across the Yenisei became the only engineering structure of the Great Siberian Route, along with the Eiffel Tower awarded the Grand Prix and the Big Gold Medal of the World Exhibition in Paris "For architectural excellence and excellent technical performance." Later, UNESCO scientists called the Krasnoyarsk railway bridge the pinnacle of human engineering. It is this bridge that is mentioned in the book Atlas of Wonders of the World. Outstanding Architectural Buildings and Monuments of All Times and People”, published in 1991 in the USA, in the“ Russia ”section, along with the Kremlin and Peterhof. It is the longest bridge in Russia, almost a kilometer long bridge (907 meters).

The bridge was built by Russian workers and technicians under the supervision of engineer Yevgeny Karlovich Knorre, designed by professor of the Imperial Moscow Technical School Lavr Proskuryakov. Construction began in 1895. The construction was completed on March 28, 1899.

In the 90s, the construction of the third bridge began, next to the existing ones. It was assumed that after putting it into operation, the first, p-revolutionary, was dismantled.

Despite the protests of the defenders of historical and cultural monuments, in 2002 the dismantling of the bridge began. Now in its place is a new building, and nearby, at the end of 2015, the 4th automobile bridge across the Yenisei was opened.
