One-day Route in Krasnoyarsk
You have come to Krasnoyarsk or you’ve been sent to a small business trip - this is a good reason to get acquainted with the city on the Yenisey. Of course, you won’t have enough time to see all the great places in the city, but you will exactly manage to have a good walk around it and get inspired to a big trip around the Krasnoyarsk region!
Route Historical
Krasnoyarsk is a city with almost 400-years great history, and it means that a walk in its historical part will exactly be informative and absolutely not boring!
So, the first point of the route is the observing ground near the Paraskeva Pyatnitsa Chapel (Stepan Razin street, 51). In the beginning of the 18th century the Cossacks guard which protected the Kachinskiy fortress, was staying in this place. When the need in protection disappeared, a huge wooden cross was installed here in the memory of brave Cossacks. Then it was changed by a wooden chapel, and in 1855 the Krasnoyarsk residents erected a stone chapel named after Paraskeva Pyatnitsa. Now the Pokrovskiy Park, where you can walk and admire the opening panorama of the city, is situated here near the observing ground. By the way, making a photo near the chapel with a ten-rubles banknote will be a good (although, a bit pop) idea. Yes-yes, this is the chapel depicted in the banknote!
We offer to choose Strelka (Mira Square) as the next location. In 1628 the Krasniy Yar fortress was founded here and gave rise to the city of Krasnoyarsk. Now you can see the Triumph arch, constructed to the city’s 375th anniversary, the monument to the commander Nikolay Rezanov, whose love story became the basis of the rock opera Junona and Avos, the only pedestrian bridge over the Yenisey and many other beautiful and interesting sights here – it’s better to come yourself and get sure in it! And on descending to the water in the place where everyone feeds ducks (right under the Vantovy bridge), you can find a QR-code and after scanning it you will see how the fortress looked and where exactly it was situated.
Then we go to walk along Mira avenue. Here we can see the real concentration of the architectural monuments, since in 19th century rich merchants and gold miners built their houses here. Going along Mira avenue, you will see lots of rich people’s mansions of the late 19th - early 20th century, remained till nowadays, and many others. And do stop and make a photo near the monument to Andrey Pozdeev who is well known as Siberia Matisse. Don’t forget to rub the nose of the bronze sculpture – it is said to bring luck!
From the monument to artist Pozdeev go back to Detskiy Mir (Mira avenue, 79) and turn to the direction of Lenin street to the museum-estate named after V.I. Surikov (if you stand with your back to the Detskiy Mir shop, cross the road right in front of you and go ahead to the next cross roads, there cross the road and go left till you reach the address Lenin street, 98). The museum-estate is not just the name of the place where you can see the collection of the great artist’s pictures. This the place where Vasiliy Surikov was born and lived before he entered the Arts Academy. This house, built by the artist’s father in 1830, was one of the dearest and favourite places for Surikov – he dreamt to settle here for constant living. In this place a lot of images for his future paintings were born, one of his last masterpieces The Capture of the Snow Fortress was created here as well. The guides will tell you about Cossacks’ lifestyle, that can be seen in the house (yes, Surikov was a real Cossack!) and will answer all the burning questions about the original paintings of Vasiliy Surikov, placed here.
After that we will finish our evening with a tasty dinner in the Cheshuya restaurant (Lenin street, 118а). Enjoy muksun in spices with red onion and take a bird-berry brownie for dessert. And while eating tasty dishes, plunge into the memories of the passed informative day :)
Route Natural
Krasnoyarsk and nature are the two inseparably linked things. That is why a mini trip around the nature’s pearls of these places is the best way to get acquainted with the city.
*You will need comfortable hiking footwear for this trip as well as comfortable clothes for climbing on the rocks. And don’t forget to take some snacks and water – the appetite is especially good at nature!
And, of course, the first location, that must be visited, is the national park Krasnoyarsk Stolby. To see the main rocks, we’d recommend you to start the way from the cable road in the Bobrovy Log funpark (Sibirskaya Street, 99/2). After you get to the top of the slope and walk for 5 minutes, you will reach the main observing ground. Here, thanks to the special banner, you can learn which stone giants are right in front of your eyes, study different natural phenomena and even get acquainted with species of bullfinches and sparrows (yes, there are more than one species of them :)). After that go to the Stolby viewing point (here are the coordinates 55.932083° 92.760925°), to enjoy the nature of national park fully. Don’t be afraid and climb on the rocks to see the forests going away over the horizon, frozen-like trees and other amazing rocks. After descending, go back along the same route to the cable road to get down (in the beginning of the trip buy a return ticket for the cable road!).
As the next point we suggest choosing the Eastern Entrance to the national park Krasnoyarsk Stolby (Bazayskaya street, 232a). Here you can see the rocks of Takmak group and the granite quarry which is poured with water by mountaineers as soon as the temperature is with stable minus. Don’t forget to drink water from the Mokhovoy brook, which is said to have healing and rejuvenating properties.
Then we keep the path to the record-holder stairs on the Torgashinskiy Ridge This object is included into the Records Book of Russia – to get to one the ridge’s tops, it’s necessary to cover 1683 steps. Well, are you ready to make the ascent? :) Don’t forget to make stops on the special platforms, where the most photographic views of the national park Krasnoyarsk Stolby and make photos of them (although, to tell the truth, a fantastic panorama is opened from each step!). As soon as you are on the top, you have two ways – to enjoy the beauties and go down or walk a bit more along the ridge to the views of the city as well – choose the second variant and you’ll get plenty of emotions!
And now it’s high time to have some meals after a long trip at nature. Go back to the Bobrovy Log funpark to eat the gifts of Siberian nature and ancient recipes in classic and modern variants in the restaurant Khozyain Taigi (Sibirskaya street, 92). Taste yushka-soup with roe deer meat and mousse with forest berries for dessert. We promise it to be delicious!
Route With Children
Rest with children requires it to be maximally interesting, but at the same time it shouldn’t be exhausting.
Choose the Central or as it is also called left-bank embankment of Krasnoyarsk as the first point. Start your walk in the district of the Communal bridge and move to the Vantovy bridge (if you standing with your face towards the Yenisey, go to the left). On your way you will see the Regional Studies Museum built in the Egypt style, the Saint Nikolas ship, where the future Russian emperor Nikolay II stayed, and Vladimir Lenin went to his exile in Shushenskoye, the modern museum centre Mira Square, and, of course, enjoy the calming flowing of the Yenisey Father. In the end of the embankment you can enjoy the swings with a wonderful view and to feed ducks, and after that go uo to the Vantovy bridge leading to Tatyshev island.
After passing the bridge you will go down to the real oasis in the center of million-plus city. On the island you will meet and feed cute gophers who have their own gopher snacks vending machine (with special food for rodents), also you can have a ride on the bicycles or scooters which you can rent in the beginning of the Vantovy bridge, or just relax your mind. Special children playgrounds with tunnels other cool things are built here for children, so don’t hesitate to send them there. And you can have some active time at small sports spots, usually situated nearby.
We think, it’s high time to put the children’s activity to good use and go to the interactive museum of science Newton Park (Mira Square,1). Here one can easily understand difficult laws thanks to the interactive exhibits and experiment-shows. We can assure, it will be interesting for all the family.
We offer to finish the day with something tasty. In Mira avenue, 10 you will find the Cream café, where a rich choice of hot dishes, breakfast sets, desserts and many other things, which your children will exactly like, is psented here.
