Podkamennaya Tunguska

Podkamennaya tunguska is perhaps the most obstinate daughter of the great Yenisei, whose length is 1865 km, she collects her waters from a vast territory of 240,000 square km. Its origins are in the spurs of the Angarsk Ridge, the main course passes along the heterogeneous relief of the Central Siberian Plateau. The river in the upper reaches is located in a deep expanded rapids, gorge-like valley with strong volcanic rocks. By the way, such sites are called traps, and when weathering they form the famous outcrops - “pillars”. In addition to the heterogeneous relief and the unique trajectory of the Podkamennaya Tunguska, the river also has a historical value. During the XX century in the valley of the Podkamennaya Tunguska River, more than 150 ancient archaeological sites were discovered, chronologically covering the period from the Neolithic to the late Middle Ages and ethnographic modernity, and belonging to various archaeological cultures. Well, all over the world the river came to knowledge after the disaster in its basin in June 1908 - a meteorite fall. Photo by клубневод.рф.
