- Central Siberian Reserve
Central Siberian State Nature Biosphere Reserve is one of the largest forest reserves in the world. It is situated on the territory of Turukhansk and Evenkiysky districts of the Krasnoyarsk region. Its area is 1 019 899 hectares.
This is the only reserve in Russia, where the both banks of the great Yenisei river are protected at the distance of 60 km. While the left bank psents the typical West Siberian Plain, the right one is the Central Siberian Plateau with rocks and mountain taiga. Here you can meet larches with a thickness of the two men’s arms aged 700 years and over.
The reserve protects a part of the water area of the Podkamennaya Tunguska river and the basin of the clearest river Stolbovaya. Along the banks of the Stolbovaya and its tributaries you can meet fossilized sea deposits of the Paleozoic era: sponges, corals, moss aged over 400 million years. On the Podkamennaya Tunguska there are famous Sulomay Stolby, their height reaches 80 meters.
The State natural protected area of Federal significance Yeloguysky with the territory of 747 600 hectares is under the reserve’s protection. It helps to save the traditional lifestyle of the indigenous people of the North and Siberia – the Kets. There are just about a thousand of them.
Over 1069 plant species, 48 mammal species, 274 bird species, 4 amphibian and reptile species, 35 fish species, over 1120 insects and spider species can be found in the reserve. The RF Red Book includes 25 species of plants and animals of the reserve: 2 species of mammals, 1 fish species, 3 species of plants and 20 bird species. Here bears, соболи, elks, reindeer and ценные fish species – sturgeon, starlet, taimen, lenok and others live here in safety.
In the reserve there are three excursion routes developed for tourists: “To the depth of centuries along the Podkamennaya Tunguska”, “Down along the Yenisei to the past and psent” and “Flight along the Yenisei”.
