Bronze Gophers in Krasnoyarsk: Where to Find Them

This summer the bronze sculptures of gophers appeared in the landmark places of Krasnoyarsk. According to the legend, these small animals have run away from Tatyshev Island, where hundreds of such rodents live. Either local residents or guests of the city love them.  

This where you can find these cute bronze creatures in Krasnoyarsk:

Gopher the Conquer of the Yenisei named Kras. The Central embankment to the right of the Communal bridge.

The just married gophers live near the monument to Commander Rezanov (Mira square, 1) — the groom’s name is R, and the bride’s name is K. The organizers of the project Gophers in the City of K decided  not to give full names to the gophers. However, their location and the first letters of names remind the story of Commander Rezanov and his beloved Conchita (Konchita – in Russian version), connected with Krasnoyarsk.

Gopher Raya. The Solnechnaya Polyana Park in the micro-district of Solnechny (60 Let Obrazovaniya SSSR st., 24А/1).

Gopher the Bibliophile Afonya. Yudin Park (Oborony street, 19b). A bookcase for children’s book crossing has been placed nearby.

Gopher the Astronomer named Strazh. Karaulnaya Hill near the Paraskeva Pyatnitsa Chapel.

Gopher the Cosmonaut Nazar. The Cosmonauts Park in Zelenaya Roshcha (Telman st., 30).

Gopher the Cossack Obrada. Khazret Sovmen Embankment.

Gopher the Wrestler YAr. Yarygin Embankment.

Gopher the Artist Suri. Vasily Surikov Park (Lenin st., 118А).

In total, there are ten sculptures. If you connect the first letters of their names, you will get the city’s name – Krasnoyarsk.

Besides that, on the Central Embankment you can find a gopher football player named Fint. This is a psent to the citizens from the Yenisei Football Club. And near the entrance to the Fresco Restaurant (Perenson st., 4/1) a gopher named Venya, set on the initiative of the repsentatives of the city restaurant industry, welcomes guests. Venya symbolizes the gastronomy value of the region.

The bronze gophers have become the citizens’ favourites. The organizers of projects Gophers in the City of K do not exclude that next summer the idea may be developed.
