Tayaty Village
Tayaty is a village in Karatuzsky district of the Krasnoyarsk region, situated at the foothills of Western Sayan on the left bank of the Kazyr river. It was founded in 1890 by the schismatic Old Believers, natives of central Russia. The distance to the district’s centre – the village of Karatuzskoye – is 73 km, and to the nearest rather big city Minusinsk — 140 km.
The residents of the village actively revive forgotten crafts: basket weaving, wool felting, woodcarving, producing household utensils, candles and many others. In Tayaty they make healing cedar and fir oils, as well as healthy products on their base: healing balms and creams, cedar halva.
In 2022 the museum-estate of folk lifestyle and crafts was opened in the village. It became possible thanks to the victory of the project “The village is missing the city, while the city is missing the village” in the competition “Start-ups in the sphere of culture, arts and creative industries”, held by the President’s Fund of cultural initiatives.
The aim of the project is mutual cultural exchange. For specialists from the city it is a dive into rural lifestyle, acquaintance with customs, crafts, and pristine taiga landscapes. For the residents of the taiga village this is an opportunity to be educated by the recognized professional in the arts sphere.

A part of exhibits is from Malinovka, Motorsky and the regions of central Russia, where the first settlers and old-timers came to the village from.
