To walk by the water: the best embankments in Krasnoyarsk

With the coming of spring we want to spent more and more time in the street and go for long walks. The embankments are very suitable for promenades – you can admire the eternal streams of water forever. Krasnoyarsk is very lucky in this – we don’t have any lack of beautiful and comfortable embankments. We are glad to tell you where you can go to admire river surface right this weekend. But don’t forget to put on warm clothes, as Siberian weather, as we know on our own, is quite unpdictable.

► The Embankment named after H.M. Sovmen.

Let’s start our list from a bit unusual place – the embankment named after the patron Khazret Sovmen in Leninskiy district of our city.  This place is the youngest one in our list, it was landscaped less than a year ago, in summer 2022. Сейчас небольшое прогулочное пространство вдоль Енисея, расположившееся за парком ДК имени 1 Мая, Now this small walking area can be rightly called a calm harbour. Either on week days, or days-off you will not see a big amount of people here – mainly the inhabitants of the nearest blocks of flats walk here. But believe, this place is worth coming to from any part of Krasnoyarsk for walking. Why?  – Let’s keep on telling!

Firstly, the embankment has two levels – from the upper one you can see a wonderful view of the left bank’s centre and small islands in the Yenisey. On the lower one you can feed ducks and meditate looking at the blue water from the observing ground made in the shape of a Cossacks’ boat.  Secondly, here you can move between the levels using stairs or moving along a zigzag-like access ramp – choose on your taste:) Thirdly, the place is comfortable for walking with children – there is a playing ground, space for  children’s fun and running. Сравнительно небольшая территория в данном случае скорее преимущество, ведь вашего ребёнка будет видно с любой точки набережной.

You can also walk with dogs here, jog, fish and just  to forget about city rush in piece and calm.

How to get there: take public transport to the stop “School (the avenue named after Krasnoyarskiy Rabochiy Newspaper)”. Then go along Administrativniy road to Parkovaya street. The walking route will cover a bit over 1 km.

► Central (left-side) embankment

This is one of the landmarks of the city and, perhaps, the most well-known city embankments. It is perfect for walking in any season. But it’s a special pleasure to walk here under the first summer sunshine after the long winter. And if you haven’t been to the left-side embankment for a long time and have forgotten its sizes, believe – here is enough place to walk!

6 kilometers from the Vantovy bridge to the Railway bridge and two levels, or as they are called, upper and lower terraces are created especially for admiring the beauties of the Yenisey Father and the mighty rocks. You can either walk on foot, or ride a bicycle, electric scooter, roller skates. And if you don’t have all these, but want to ride as quickly as the wind, the rental services will start working soon!

When you enjoy the panorama, opening from each part of the long embankment, you can start a trip to the landmark places of the city. In a foot walk distance there is the museum of local lore and the museum ship St.Nikolay, museum centre Mira Square,  river station, trading and entertainment centre Yenisey with Cinema Park, the Communal bridge depicted on the ten-rubles banknote, and many other interesting places. By the way, on the embankment near the registry office you can find the monument to the leader of the music band Nashestvie Kaktusov Slava Glyuk. If you meet it, don’t forget to rub his nose for luck!

How to get there: you can get to the Central embankment from different public transport stops which are situated along it. You can get to the Вантового моста by one of the buses going to the stop Philarmonia. Near the Yenisey trading centre there is the bus station The Oktyabr’skaya Hotel (Karl Marx street). To get to the Communal bridge you’d better go to the stops Dom Tekhniki or Teatr Opery i Baleta.

► Yarygin Embankment

While the central embankment is considered to be the main one on the left bank, Yarygin embankment can be called the main promenade near water on the opposite bank. Here, in this three meters long space spading along the Yenisey, amateurs of peaceful rest as well as those of active leisure will find their interest.

Would you like to jog or ride a bicycle? – You’re welcome! Do you want to enjoy the view of Ostrov Otdykha (Recreation Island) ? – so, here are special observing grounds proudly rising above the river and lots of benches with  sheds in case of rain. Are you going to walk with your dog? – The embankment leads even to the Beliye Rossy micro-district And if you’ve undereatimated a bit the power of spring wind and got cold, you can drop in small, but cozy, coffee shops and have a bite.

And if you want to make cool photos, several art objects are waiting for you along the perimeter of the embankment. We recommend two of them – Lion on the Stone and Duality. The symbol of Krasnoyarsk is situated not far from  the Beliye Rossy micro-district, and another art object, reminding two hearts united together, can be found closer to Predmostnaya Square.

How to get there: go by public transport to the stops Predmostnaya Ploschad’ or Agentstvo Aeroflota.

► The bank near the Enthusiasts Park behind the Krasnoyar’ye Trade Centre

Another great place for walking near water on the right bank is the pier near the Enthusiasts Park.  The small walking area has everything necessary for comfortable leisure time after work in the quiet evening, for example.

Here are comfortable swings, on which you can even lay down and admire the panorama of the Yenisey. You can also find a cozy coffee shop, a ground for fishing and throwing stones into water and everything what makes your walk pleasant. By the way, on the upper level of the pier you can see a silver weather vane, which starts as a clock mechanism on the smallest wind blowing. You can forget about everything if you don’t turn away from this hypnotic action :)

Note, it's especially nice here during dark time – you can see the “Northern lights” after the sunset.  The unusual art object shimmers with bright colours and enchants from the very first second! And if you sit on the bench at the bottom of this object, you can literally become a part of this unusual nature phenomenon and take a pair of cool photos.

How to get there: go the bus station Trade Centre. Then walk along the Krasnoyar’ye trading centre to the Enthusiasts Park, right after it, near the church, you will finв the pier you need.

► The embankment named after P.I. Pimashkov

Our list is closed by one of the most popular places for walking among the residents of Krasnoyarsk – the embankment named after P.I.Pimashkov. The promenade, spad along the Kacha river, can be called the arteria, connecting public spaces on the both sides of the river. But note, this isn’t the main advantage of the embankment! It’s good on its own :)

Starting not far from Strelka near Vantovy bridge the embankment stretches even to the park named after G.V. Yudin. This is even 3 kilometers of slow walking. Here are art objects, several children grounds, tracks for cycling, roller skating, scooter riding and small bridges across the Kacha as well. And what great views are here!

We recommend starting the walk along the embankment from art object Truth and Justice near Strelka and then move along the bridge to the Winners park. Then you can change the bank and make a photo near the beautiful buildings of the Pioneers Palace and the Orphanage named after H.M.Sovmen. Walking along the noisy and already well risen Kacha, sit in one of the gazebos. And if you are with your child, you’ll find a lot of playgrounds. You can finish your walk in the park named after G.V. Yudin near the Family bridge.

The embankment is good both during the daytime and n the evening, when everything around is lighted – the bridges, paths and art objects.

How to get there: go by public transport to the stop Philarmonia, if you want to start your walk near Strelka by  the Vantovy bridge. You can get to the central part of the embankment from the bus stops Pedagogical University and Central Market. If you want to start with Yudin’s Park, you’d better take off at the bus stop Rechnoy Pereulok.
