The Sayano-Shushensky Nature Reserve

The Sayano-Shushensky State Biosphere Reserve is located in the south of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, on the land of the mighty Western Sayan. On 390,368 hectares of the Sayano-Shushensky Reserve, you will find steppe, forest-steppe, forest, dense taiga, forest tundra, alpine tundra, alpine meadows and an eternal snow belt. Each natural zone has its own flora, fauna and its own microclimate. You can get here only by water transport along one of the deepest water reservoirs in Siberia - Sayano-Shushensky. There are: - 321 species of mosses; - 263 species of lichens; - 61 species of mammals: lynx, snow leopard, manul, musk deer, bears, wolves, Siberian mountain goats, forest reindeer and sables, including; - 21 species of fish; - 257 species of birds and owl bearded with them; - 6 species of reptiles; - 777 species of insects; - 1086 species of vascular plants; - 245 species of mushrooms; - a little yeti, but that's not for sure :) Photo by Roman Afanasyev, Roman Brygin.
