Car Trip Krasnoyarsk –Yeniseisk for 4 days
The Krasnoyarsk region is famous not only for its natural beauties (that there is only the nature park Ergaki or Plateau Putoran, for example), mineral resources and industrial power, but and its history as well! Now we can study it not only thanks to reading school textbooks, but thanks to travelling as well. Imagine, you can see the places where destinies used to be decided, touch the buildings constructed in the times of merchants and noblemen, get inspired with the atmosphere and miracles of the past (and by the psent sometimes!). You can do all this in the Krasnoyarsk region, making a trip from the region’s capital to Yeniseisk, visiting some more unusual places on the way.
So, has the route been built?
KRASNOYARSK – BARABANOVO – BOLSHAYA MURTA – KAZACHINSKOYE – YENISEISK – MONASTYRSKOYE LAKE – KRASNOAYRSK
Note, this route is designed for 4 days including the way. On the first day we advise you to start the trip as early as possible I the morning to be able to see all the route points described below and reach Yeniseisk in the evening. Devote the second and the third days to exploration of Yeniseisk itself. In the morning of the fourth day go to Monastyrskoye lake to have a rest and after that finish your trip and go back to Krasnoyarsk.
DAY 1
► We suggest starting the route in the most historical place of Krasnoyarsk of all the possible ones – Mira Square or Strelka, as it is often called by people. Right here you can see the Triumph Arc, set by the 375th anniversary of Krasnoyarsk foundation, notice how tightly and organically different epochs are interweaved – the buildings of the Soviet period and the museum-steamship St.Nikolay ,which Vladimir, then Ulyanov, went by to his exile to Shushenskoye, walk along the Vantovy Bridge, go down to the embankment and feed cute ducks, and of course, catch the wind from the Yenisei on one of the swings nearby.
► Then we go to see the oldest remained wooden sacred places in the Krasnoyarsk region – Saint Paraskeva Pyatnitsa Church in Barabanovo (at the 21st km of road 04К-044 Yeniseisky Tract turn to road 04К-291 – from here the way to Barabanovo will take about 40 minutes). From far away you will see a high and big cathedral which due to its unusual architecture is unofficially considered to be the local Kizhi Now the church is being refurbished, but you can get inside anyway and see the interior, remained since 1857, with your own eyes. Note, the images of the saints are painted right on the wooden walls! And don’t forget to go down to the Yenisei bank, where, in the sheer cliffs, swallows have made a lot of nets, a picturesque and such a peaceful panorama of the neighbouring villages is seen from.
► Go back to road 04К-044 Yeniseisky Tract and go straight to Bolshaya Murta! The place is well known among people thanks to the famous exiled - archbishop Luka, who is mundanely known as a famous doctor Valentin Feliksovich Voino-Yasenetsky. Before the war, he worked as a surgeon in Bolshemurtinskaya District Hospital, where there were no specialists besides him. Doctors and nurses as well as the patients, saved by Valentin Feliksovich, long remembered that great power, he had. You can learn more about the exile of archbishop Luka in the Regional Studies Museum of Bolshaya Murta thanks to the permanent exposition “Saint Luka – God’s man and a genius surgeon”. Don’t forget to visit the Church of St. Luka Archbishop of Krasnoyarsk and quench the thirst from the spring of Saint Luka, where the surgeon used to take water from to make medicines (3 km from Bolshaya Murta).
► The next stop on the road to Yeniseisk is Kazachinskoye village. This is one of the oldest settlements of the Yeniseisk province, uts history started over 300 years ago! The fame about this village spad around Russia in 2001, when the icon of Our Lady of Kazan started to cry in the Saint Trinity Church. Then people started to talk that it was a warning about disaster, and indeed some months later in Kazachiskoye awful fires happened. But local priests are sure, such things happen to strength people’s faith. And it has been almost 20 years since Our Lady and the infant Christ do not stop crying, as well as the pilgrims do not stop visiting these sacred places. Also visit the Saint spring of Peter and Paul - its water, according to the locals’ opinion, can heal different diseases. Even if you are far from religion, we do recommend you visiting these places to feel special grace.
DAY 2 AND 3
► The final point of our trip and that very place, in sake of which this adventure has been planned – Yeniseysk!
Well, here it is – the oldest city of the Krasnoyarsk region and Eastern Siberia in general, which was famous for its large-scale trading and gold mining until the mid-19th century. Now it is a real outdoor museum, where you can feel a real merchant walking around it.
So, we will tell you what to see in Yeniseisk:
– Lenin street and the Yenisei embankment. All the principal historical buildings are located along Lenin street, which was called Bolshaya in the past: here is a house with columns , which belonged to merchant Dementyev for some time – it is a real novelty for a small Siberian town, and the house of the Tonkonogovs with lace molding and even Borodkin’s house, where you can stay for some days and feel like the most important merchant , since absolutely nothing has been reconstructed here – the interiors of the 19th century have been refurbished and now you can enjoy Siberian cuisine for dinner in the former wine cellar, see the most pleasant dreams in the bed with a baldachin, play table games from the past and even go to your own small balcony in the morning with a cup of tea or coffee, observing the town. Also we’ll do observe the buildings of the reading hall of Balandin, trade house of Zamaraev and many other interesting places, attracting the eye. The pearl of the trip is a slow promenade along the cozy embankment with a wonderful view of the Yenisei, which is especially wide and mighty in the same-name city. And, of course, don’t forget to make a photo near the monument to the founders of Yeniseisk at the corner of Petrovsky and Babkin streets near the building of the Uezd college. You can see the composition in advance and learn its history here
- The Yeniseisk Regional Studies Museum named after A.I. Kytmanov. This is not just one of the oldest museums in Siberia, which was founded in 1833, but a real treasure for all those who are not usually fond of museums. Here, that very classical style museum and a modern interactive one has organically joined! Is it interesting to touch a bear’s or a sable’s fur?- Don’t hesitate to touch their fur and guess whose fur it is. Did you listen to fairy tales for the last time in your childhood? – Here you can learn the legends of the northern peoples of the Krasnoyarsk region with the help of an audio guide. This is here where you can you can find everything - from the unique collection of household utensils of the indigenous people of the North - the Kets, collected over 100 years ago, to the models of the first ships, which travelled along the Yenisei, and circus posters. Also, the museum staff members hold observing excursions around the city and its cool places, discovering its numerous sides for the guests. You can learn more about this place on the official web-site enmuseum.ru
- Churches, cathedrals and monasteries. Tourists often go to Yeniseisk to get acquainted with the history of the orthodox places and feel their special atmosphere. So, Uspensky Cathdral, where its historical interior and iconostasis have been pserved until psent days, is the most ancient cathedral of the Yeniseisk diocese of orthodox church. Also, do visit Bogoyavlensky Cathedral, Voskresenskaya Church and Spaso-Preobrazhensky Men Monastery, which is one of the oldest in the territory of the Krasnoyarsk region, and other unique orthodox places – the examples of Siberian baroque. Don’t be shy to come inside and explore everything in details. And if you are lucky, perhaps, you will have a chance to visit one of the wonderful belfries.
And this place will be especially interesting for visiting with children:
- The Plane Museum. Have you ever thought that it is possible to dedicate a whole museum jut to the only tool for planning? – Well, in Yeniseisk they have done it and opened the only Plane museum in Russia, or maybe even in the world! So, if you still don’t know what a roughing plane, a fillet plane, a rounding plane, bullnose plane and a rabbet plane is, you must certainly get here! In the private collection there are over one and half thousand items of this STOLAR tool. The collection includes not only planes, made in Russia, but the ones brought from Germany, France and other European countries as well. And the oldest plane, made in the 18th century, arrived to the wonderful Siberian town from England! By the way, here you can try to work with the tools, that is very-very interesting.
- Museum Photo Izba. You can hold ancient household utensils of the Yeniseisk people in your hands and get to the place, where the memory about several centuries of the ancient town’s life is alive, in the museum Photo Izba. The unusual collection of furniture, books, photos, household items and even a coffee mill by the Peugeot company, which is already over 200 years old, has been formed with great love by the resident of Yeniseisk Pyotr Yakovlevich Drozdov. That is why you will not just see the items, but the warmest and interesting stories about the town’s life will be told to you by Pyotr Yakovlevich himself or his wife.
- The Coachman’s Farmstead Museum. Some years ago, Evgeny Fyodorovich Pavlov had found three stirrups in his friend’s shed, and that gave the start to the unusual collection. Now there are over thirty stirrups in the farmstead. Each of them differs in its shape, there summer, winter ones, for men and ladies. All the exhibits are kept in a small shed – this is some kind of a museum of the details of horse harness. You can see a collection of trappings, horse collars and stirrups and other items. There are absolutely unique exhibits, for example. 150-years-old sleigh bells. Note, Evgeny Pavlov doesn’t just collect all these treasures, but he uses them for their intended purpose – organizes horse riding promenades on sleighs and phaetons.
DAY 4
► We are going back to Krasnoyarsk, but let’s make a little change of the route and go to Manastyrskoye lake. It is situated 4 km from Yeniseisk between villages Plotbishche and Yalan in a picturesque pine forest. The name of the lake, as you can easily guess, was given by monks. According to the legend, in 1642 (just imagine, those days the first Tzar of the Romanovs dynasty Mikhail Fyodorovich was ruling the Russian Empire!) two monk brothers saw the silhouette of a monastery in the lake and after that they organized a skete on the banks of the lake. You can find some ruins of it here even nowadays. Now you can admire the pure water of the lake, which is considered to be reviving and healing, enjoy the fresh pine air and have a rest walking on the warm sand.
